April 16, 2026

Meeting called to order: 7:05PM

Meeting Overview

  • PTSA quarterly community meeting called to order at 7:05 PM

  • 60 current members (up from 56), largest PTSA in years

  • Stacy Berger’s final meeting as president

  • Motion to approve January meeting minutes passed

PTSA Goals & Achievements

  • $16,000 direct teacher/staff support + $100,000 school contribution

  • Added community events: picnic, movie night, Lincoln gear up, volunteer appreciation (May 19th)

  • Communication growth: 500+ emails on listserv

  • On track to raise $200,000 this year

Upcoming Events & Volunteer Needs

  • Bash fundraiser: April 26th at Skylight, early bird pricing ends tomorrow

    • Theme: “Lights Camera Lincoln” (TV/movie costume theme)

    • Live music, catered buffet, strolling magic, online auction opens Sunday 6am

  • Spring Concert: Broadway songs, bring chairs/blankets

  • Earth Day: April 22nd, volunteer opportunities available

  • Teacher Appreciation Week: May 4-8, significant volunteer support needed

  • Bike Rodeo: May 13th, 3:30-6pm

  • Community Garden volunteer day: May 2nd, 9-11am

Financial Report (Kristina)

  • Budget restructured: revenues first, expenses second

  • Finance meeting April 29th for 2026-27 preliminary budget

  • Financial review scheduled for August

  • CD matured, interest rolled to September

  • Colorado PTSA convention attended - free resources available

Board Elections Results

  • Rhett Buckley: Vice President

  • Angela Jensen: Community Communications

  • Sabrina Bovay: Fundraising Chair (nominated from floor)

  • Still need: President, Marketing, Membership positions

  • Additional election scheduled for May (likely virtual)

School Budget Contribution Discussion

  • Historical contributions: $70K (2021-22) to $100K (current year)

  • School submitted 26/27 budget including $100K PTSA contribution without prior approval

  • PTSA solicited feedback from teachers around the type of support that would be most beneficial (that PTSA could financially contribute to)

    • Feedback shows non-ECE classrooms receive <1 hour daily para support

    • Teacher feedback emphasizes need for consistent paraprofessional support

Budget Contribution Decision

  • Motion passed: Option 1 - Dedicate entire allocation to paraprofessionals

    • 2.5-3 paraprofessionals depending on BASH results (~$42K each)

    • Focus on instructional support serving maximum students

  • Principal must officially accept contribution for hiring to begin

  • Discussion around volunteers in the building to help support teachers (retired teachers as a possibility as well); a parent reported being denied access to support in classrooms. PTSA to inquire about a school or District policy related to volunteering in classrooms to support teachers

Staff Culture Concerns

  • 80% of DCTA teaching staff completed culture survey showing dissatisfaction with school leadership

  • Key issues: lack of collaboration, transparency, unprofessional treatment

  • Teachers report toxic work environment, fear of retaliation

  • Union requested group meeting with principal - denied, only individual meetings offered

  • District supervisor (Araceli) initially claimed no formal complaints received

Community Response & Next Steps

  • 35 parents signed letter to district requesting action

  • The PTSA made multiple attempts to schedule meetings; when those could not be arranged, communication continued via email. The intent was to discuss concerns, but efforts to connect and receive responses were unsuccessful.

  • Virtual town hall proposed for Monday, April 19th @ 7pm

  • Parents encouraged to contact Office of Community Engagement (FACE)

  • Joint CSC-PTSA meeting with board member Kim Sia requested

  • 2 staff members not returning; more staff departures are expected
