  • Principal’s Report: Mrs. Landis

    1. Culture v. Climate,

      1. Works on trying to visit each and every classroom

      2. October 29th Literacy Day Parade

        1. Kids will dress as their favorite literary characters with a parade

        2. Also bring the book

      3. Communications, weekly newsletters as part of community

      4. Enrollment/budget

        1. Over by 38 students from the projected enrollment, beating the trend of declining enrollment, able to hire an additional 1.5 para professionals

      5. Field: current capital position is $0

      6. Current funds are $10k for the fields, typically as maintenance which tills the soil, seed the ground and overwater for the next 18 months

      7. 39 other schools are looking at the same issue with the fields issue

      8. Fields not part of the current bond

      9. $28.6 million gap projected for DPS over the next several years

      10. No current plan, several options moving forward

        1. $10k idea already discussed

        2. Irrigations fix is $96k, going from 3 zones to 5 zones

        3. Sod + irrigation is $160K,

        4. $500K artificial turf

          1. 9 year shelf life

        5. ANY NEW FIELD WILL TAKE BETWEEN 12-18 months to fully establish

      11. Question about whether a new field has to be installed by DPS versus another contractor or finding a new contractor for a better price.

      12. Other options to address the field

        1. 2024 bond reallocation

        2. DPS foundation gifts

        3. Family Capital campaign

        4. Repair and replacement fund

        5. DPS maintenance budge

        6. Corporate partners

        7. Bridge loans

        8. Tiger team 

      13. By the end of OCTOBER, want to decide between sod or turf

        1. Question about how to keep people off the field 

        2. Launching a blended campaign to get it going

      14. Excited surrounding the possibility of a Tiger Team. 

    2. Working on Systems

      1. PBIS System - Paws Prints

      2. Safety Systems - up front of the school when they come in, name tags, visitor check in

          2. Staff is cheaper at 7 bucks

          3. Last year we had 62 members on the PTA

          4. Currently at 57 members, working on beating last year’s numbers

          5. We get award if we increased membership to a certain number

    1. Finance Committee: meets 1x/month, going well; open to any member

    2. Membership Committee: Rachel serves as the Lead for our Membership engagement and will determine if/how to form a committee to engage and sustain membership. 

    3. Nominating Committee: Help to find nominees for the Secretary and Treasurer roles that are up in the Spring.
